John Atkinson's 70th Birthday run and Garden Party!

Over 60 runners set out on a 5.2 mile run on a warm Summer evening and finished the run at John's home some 300 metres from Wanstead Leisure Centre. John whose birthday was on Monday 20th August 2012 is in full training for the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 30th September 2012 had arranged for a plentiful supply of food and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Later in the evening he fired up his barbecue and those that wanted enjoyed a burger. We wish john all the best for his birthday and to him gaining a Good for Age time at Berlin and look forward to running with him throughout his 70's.

Book your diaries for 20th August 2022 for John's 80th birthday run and celebrations!

From John Atkinson.
Wednesday the 22nd August will be my first run as a septuagenarian. I have asked Frank to include a special drinks station, in my back garden, at the end of the run, ( 2 minutes from Leisure Centre ) where drinks and nibbles will be available. I know August is a time of holidays but I hope as many of you as possible can come. John

Frank Brownlie, Club Chairman said "It would be great if we could have 70 runners on the Club run on Wednesday 22nd August, which is 2 days after John's birthday. Hope you can all make it on the night whether running or not! The Club run will end at John's home. Anyone needing to return to the Leisure Centre can do so as it is only a few minutes downhill from John's." Frank

Entertainment for Thursday evening, continuing the acoustic trend is Mad Dog Mcrea, who blend a unique mix of folk rock, pop and gypsy jazz, with self penned songs to get people dancing.
