New Members
Have you wanted to improve your fitness but never got round to it? Want to make a start for the New Year perhaps as a New Year's Resolution? Or are you fed up with running alone in the cold winter nights?
Fast or slow, we have a buddy system so you will not be running alone. Just go to the Leisure Centre reception on a Wednesday evening at 6:45pm and ask for East London Runners.
The club night is at Wanstead Leisure Centre, Redbridge Lane West. We meet at 6.45 to start the run at 7pm. Being based in Wanstead gives us great access through the Summer evenings to numerous off road routes, using Wanstead Park, Roding Valley and Epping Forest. In the winter months we use the road. Again being well situated we are able a lot of the time to use the quicker back roads.
Runs are normally between 5-7½ miles. New runners to the club can do half the club run if they think this distance is too far for them to start with. We operate a "Buddy System" for new runners, so there will always be one or two other people to run with. This allows new members to get into the routine of running on a Wednesday evening.
In the winter the club competes in a cross-country league. When this finishes we have much to do with the London Marathon. With many of our members running it and for those that don?t, there is still no excuse not to be there on the day, being heavily involved with the running of a water station at 20 miles. With the onset of summer we then choose several summer races to focus on and use as club events. In addition to the above we meet every Friday evening at Walthamstow track for speed work and also long distance tract training. For those looking for a break from the exertions of training/running we organise a number of social events, such as meals, quiz nights and general booze-ups etc.
So whether you are a seasoned runner or just beginning, it would be great to see you on a Wednesday evening and acting within my role, I will ensure along with other members that you are integrated into the club in a way that is a positive and enjoyable experience for you. And remember if you're new to running don?t let this put you off joining a club as we all had to start somewhere.
Hope to see you soon.
