Chingford League Race 5 - Hosted by Orion Harriers on Sat 21/1/12 at 2.30pm

Orion Harriers are hosting this Saturday's Chingford League at Chingford.

This year they have moved to their brand new Clubhouse which is situated at the Jubilee Retreat, Bury Road, E4 7QJ (see map below and directions can be found by visiting our website:http://www.orionharriers.org.uk/hq.htm).

Parking is not available directly at the clubhouse but there is plenty of room at the car-park on Chingford Plain, approximately 300 metres away.

The Seniors' race will use the same courses as in previous years and will start to the south of Ranger's Road at 2.30pm.

There will be a selection of hot & cold snacks and drinks available at the Clubhouse and there should be plenty of hot water for those wishing to take a shower after the race.

Sunday League Cross Country - Race 4 Sunday 15th January 2012 - Tewin/Digswell

Sunday League Cross Country SSunday 15th January 2012 - Tewin/Digswell
Race #4 of 5 - Tewin (Garden City Runners)

** Please read carefully so you get to the right place. **

Race HQ: Tewin Memorial Hall, Lower Green, Tewin, AL6 0JX
www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=527155&Y=214695&A=Y&Z=3
Note : The race venue is the same as in 2008, the last time we staged this fixture, which was different to 2007 and all previous years.
The start and finish area is different to 2008 but has not moved far. We hope this will be an improvement on what was only intended as a temporary solution.
The old (2007 and earlier) start and finish area in the bottom field by Tewin Water School is out of bounds, as is the old Race HQ at Digswell.

Facilities: There are limited toilet & changing facilities at the hall but no showers. Absolutely no muddy shoes/boots in the hall please.

Refreshments: We will provide some refreshments at Tewin Memorial Hall after the race. As well as the normal tea & coffee there will be some bread and soup and cake so please return to the hall after the race if you can.

Parking:
If at all possible, please park at the Digswell end (approx 1M walk to start/finish area)
- there is plenty of parking in Welwyn North station car park (but there is a change on Sundays).
There is also plenty of free parking on the roads around the station and down the hill towards the viaduct with 2 small car parks by the viaduct.
Tewin (closer to start/finish)
There will be just few very limited parking spaces at Tewin Bowls Club,
and a small number of spaces at the car park on Upper Green.
Please share cars as much as possible.

The start/finish: (changed from 2008)
www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=526755&y=214690&z=120&sv=526755,214690&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=516&ax=526755&ay=214690&lm=0
The start and finish will be at a junction of paths close to Tewin Bowling club (grid ref 267147).
The race will start by heading SW on a wide track until it meets the concrete path and turns right. There are then nearly two complete laps of the main circuit, but near the end of the second lap, the route will turn left for a short run in to the finish.
There is not a large grassed field/area at the start so please be considerate when leaving bags and belongings.

Race start: 11.00am: Men & ladies will run together and the same distance; 2 laps plus a short run in and out along the bridleway

Race distance: Approximately 6.4M for men & ladies. (measured by map, GPS measurements on the day welcomed)

Access to the start and course: From Digswell it is approx a 1M walk from the car parks via a footpath near the bottom of New Road. Turn into the footpath around 50m from the mini-roundabout junction with the Hertford Road.
From Tewin it is approx 0.3M walk along footpaths across open fields. Take the footpath that starts by the Bowls club, 50m south of Lower Green and the Memorial Hall.

The course: Stone/mud bridleway to start and the main laps are clockwise loops on farmland over footpaths and farm fields using public rights of way across private land. Therefore competitors are asked not to stray from these and to pay due regard to underfoot conditions at all times. There are stiles and gates to negotiate on the course so please take care. Spikes, studs or trail shoes are all suitable footwear for this course.

Hope to see you all Sunday 12th December

Sunday League Race 5 at Royston -10.30am on Sunday 19th February 2012

The fifth Sunday League race will be on 19th February 2012. The event will be hosted by Royston Runners and will be held on Therfield Heath, Royston. The Race HQ will be The Heath Sports Centre, Baldock Road, Royston, SG8 5BG. The Centre has good changing and showering facilities. It also has a licensed bar that serves food.
This is a joint race, starting at 10.30am. Both women and men will run about 5 miles.
The course will be the same as last year. There will be one small lap and two large laps. The course is mostly across open downland and is hilly. It is suitable for spikes, studs or trail shoes.

Please note that all muddy footwear must be removed before entering the sports centre, especially spikes.

The centre management would appreciate it if runners would use the rear entrance, nearest the tennis courts, to access the changing areas. This will enable the reception area to remain clear.

Travel: Car – there is plenty of car parking on the Heath. The car park does get busy, especially if the weather is fine, so car sharing is advisable, where practical. Train (if coming from London) – from Kings Cross to Royston station. Take either the 8.48am (arriving at 9.36am), or the 8.59am (arriving at 10.04am). The Heath is 15 minutes walk from the station

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU !!!

The Cross Country season is upon us once again and the call to Queen and Club goes out again. Ignore the viscious rumours that you have heard about mud, hills, rain, wind and cold. These are just malicious tales of propaganda circulated by the opposition. Think of it more as an easy Sunday morning jog through gently rolling countryside in refreshing weather, listening to the twitter of birds under a clear blue winter's sky. It is now even easier to enlist (sorry volunteer). Just approach any member of the Committee, take the Queen's shilling and you are in! As easy as that. The benefits are many and vast, too many to mention here. It is best to ask after your first race. I think that's enough said on this subject for the time being. The dates for future venues are in this section, so answer the call to the colours and do your bit for club and Country.

Cross country training

Some Members are doing some great Sunday morning cross country training runs at the moment. The normal distance run is circa 10 miles although shorter routes are available. The runs start from various locations. Normally meeting in car parks within Epping Forest, or sometimes leaving from the sports centre. Everybody is welcome on these runs whether running in the cross country league or not. The pace of the run is dictated by the slowest runner. At various points around most of the runs the slower runners can cut out sections of the course meeting up with the main group a little later. Always check with Dave Knight,Frank Brownlie or Roberto Bruni. Also you can join Facebook (East London Runners) group page which will show both the meeting time, distance and location of the runs.
