Club Runner of the Month 2019

Club Runner of the Month - December 2019 - Chloe Millan

Congratulations to Chloe Millan - ELR Club Runner of the Month for December 2019.

The completion of a fine year for Chloe as she achieved two PB's over a four day spell during December. At the Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon on 8th December, she beat her previous PB by more than 5 minutes to finish in a time of 1.44.45. Her PB double was completed whilst competing for ELR in the Chingford League, at the Olympic Velopark. She recorded a 5k time of 22.31 (PB by 29 seconds) for 36th position, out of 112 finishers in the Women's race. Chloe has gone from strength to strength, steadily improving her performances and was recently placed first woman in the Valentines Park parkrun. She continues to represent the club in the ELVIS series, both Winter Leagues and the Cross Country Championship races where she is a valued member of the team.

Club Runner of the Month - November 2019 - Paul Thompson

A great month for Paul after he set a new PB of 1.32.28 at the St Neots Half Marathon on 17th November. He took more than a minute off his previous PB of 1.33.37, at the Roding Valley HM back in 2014. Paul has run well year on year at all distances from 5k to Marathon. His recent races include the Wimpole Estate Half Marathon and the cross country league fixture at Cheshunt. Vice Chairman Jonathan Wooldridge commented;"Paul is a very consistent achiever and this month smashed a previous PB of more than 5 years - something which we take for granted, but forget we age by a year too. He trains hard every weekend, encourages others and has recently started road cycling. A founder member of Tommo’s International Tours, he’s a great team player encouraging others wherever he goes. A classic line from Paul often heard is ‘One more, Maya’ always focusing on others’ achievements over his own."

Club Runner of the Month - October 2019 - John Henry

John has competed in a number of races in recent weeks and produced some outstanding performances. He completed the Warsaw Marathon in a time of 3.09.25 and just two weeks later lowered his half marathon personal best to 1.23 09, at the Royal Parks HM. He consistently runs fast times at Parkrun where he has achieved a number of first place finishes and has a PB of 17.56. John took 3rd place at the Livingston Cross Country and at this month's Serpentine Last Friday 5k, recorded a time of 18.08. At the beginning of the Month, Catriona and Nick raced in the Essex Way relay which is run over 10 legs. They were part of the mixed East London Runners team that finished in 43rd position overall.

Congratulations to Nathaniel Dye
- ELR Club Runner of the Month for July 2019.

A remarkable month for Ultra runner Nathaniel, who on the weekend of Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July, competed in the Spitfire Scramble 24 hour race. Running alone, his total of 103 miles over 18 laps was a great accomplishment and saw him finish 4th male (solo). Supported throughout by the ELR team Nathaniel says, 'as I approached the line and attempted a sprint ( in this case, shuffle) finish, I was accompanied by a red army'. 'Awe inspiring and a pleasure to be there' remarked club mate Craig Livermore! A few days later he ran for ELR at the Ilford Hilly 5 (ELVIS 4); followed by the Run Through Olympic Park 10k on Saturday 20th July where he set a personal best of 43.16, which completed a memorable few days for Nathaniel.

Nat managed to fit another Ultra into July - The challenging Twilight Ultra 50k at Hog Hill, Hainault, recording an excellent time of 5.07.09!

Club Runners of the Month - June 2019 - Euan Brown and Jose Rodriguez

This is a well deserved accolade given to both runners, which is a result of a dead heat in this month's voting.

Euan has continued to represent ELR with distinction, achieving a number of PB's on the track this summer. The first was at the Watford Open Graded Meeting, where he set a PB of 3.56.93 over 1500M distance to take 1st place. This was followed by a time of 14.48.45 for the Fast Friday 5,000M at Walthamstow (7th) and finally 4.18.10 for the Golden Stag Mile at Finsbury Park. (2nd). Jose has quickly established himself as an outstanding runner with a number of PB's and top performances for ELR. Starting at the Havering Joggers 5 Mile race (ELVIS 2), he achieved a 28.00 to finish in 4th place. The highlight of the month was at the East End Road Runners Midsummer 5k (ELVIS 3) held at the Olympic Park, where Jose took just under a minute off his previous PB to win the race in 16.15. He completed this year's London Marathon in 2.51.18 and 'The Big Half' in 1.18.04. Jose ran in the 2nd leg of the ELR men's team that won the Chingford League relays.

Club Runner of the Month - May 2019 - Samia Choudhury

Samia achieved her goal of completing the London Marathon in April; successfully combing her training runs with caring for a new addition to the family. Progressing from 5k Parkruns, she ran two half marathons in March, improving her PB by 10 minutes at the 'Big Half' and by another 5 minutes at the London Lamdmarks HM. Preparing for long runs with her buggy, Samia says she had to muster the mental strength to push her through distances she had never run before. With her husband Shahib and family in support, Samia succeeded with her challenge and is an inspiration to all runners targeting to run their first marathon.

Club Runner of the Month - April 2019 - Antonio Martin Romero

At the Greater Manchester Marathon on 7th April 2019, Antonio raised the standards once again to demolish his previous club record and achieve a new PB of 2.27.26. Running at a comfortable and even pace throughout, he produced negative split times of 1.13.53 and 1.13.33 to beat his time at the 2018 Berlin Marathon by over 2 minutes and finish in a remarkable 13th position. Three weeks earlier, Antonio competed in the Reading Half Marathon, where he beat his PB and old club record to set a time of 1.11.34. After earning the accolades, Antonio says he intends to take some rest before focusing on speed work at the track and training for the Berlin Marathon in July.

Club Runner of the Month - March 2019 - Arthur Diaz

A good month for Arthur who achieved two personal best times from three Half Marathon's, as he prepares for April's Paris Marathon. Recording a PB of 2.12.09 at the Phoenix Spring Firebird Half Marathon, he followed this a week later by finishing nine minutes quicker at the Retford Half Marathon to set a new PB of 2.03.09. Arthur joined ELR in the summer of 2018 and has improved considerably as a result of his commitment to training runs. He is an asset to the club and has embraced the Winter League Cross Country leagues. Arthur often travels far afield to compete in races and is always happy when he is running - especially when there is some cake at the finish!

Club Runner of the Month - February 2019 - Scott McMillan

This month Scott achieved a personal best time of 37.46 at the Chase The Sun 10k, in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. He improved on his time at the same race last year by 9 seconds. Scott commented 'if the course hadn't been a little on the long side, that time could have been even quicker'. He followed this three days later recording a time of 17.48 at Parkrun where he is a regular - a course PB for Hackney and his second ever fastest 5k. Scott competes in a variety of road and 'off road' events and continues to improve his performances - notably at the Ealing Half Marathon where he finished in a time of 1.24.42 (a PB by 1.34).

Club Runner of the Month - January 2019 - Becky Evans

Becky has been a regular in the Chingford League this season and her outstanding performance at the Chingford race in Epping Forest on 19th January, keeps her in contention for an age category medal with just one race remaining. Becky has improved considerably since joining the club, as a result of her training work at the track on a Monday and also the Wednesday club runs.
